The Nook is part of a 16th Century captains cottage situated in White Horse Yard, one of the most historic yards in the heart of Old Whitby and just a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of Church Street. The cottage is in an excellent location in the old cobbled part of town, near to the 199 steps leading to the famous Whitby Abbey. Whitby is built on the east and west sides of an estuary on the North Yorkshire Coast. Whitby has many lovely pubs and restaurants and boasts possibly the best and freshest fish and seafood available in the country. The town also has two beaches, the first a small sandy beach within 250 yards of The Nook and the second a lovely sandy beach on the east side stretching for miles.

Whitby has a charm and mystique all of its own. No wonder Bram Stoker chose to immortalise it in his literary masterpiece Dracula or that famous Victorian photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe chose it as the subject for much of his lifetime's work. For those of you returning to this pretty seaside town, you'll know exactly what we mean. For those of you visiting us for the first time a thoroughly enjoyable experience awaits, with its charm and idyllic location between some of Britainís finest coastline and the stunning North Yorkshire Moors, it's hardly surprising that Whitby has inspired writers, artists and hopeless romantics for countless generations.

There are many attractions to keep all ages occupied, both within Whitby and at the nearby resort of Scarborough. Robin Hoods Bay is well worth a visit with the rock pools at low tide providing entertainment for the children.

Scarborough is also within an easy drive and will make a most enjoyable
day out. Flamingo Land theme park and zoo is within 45 minutes drive of the town and offers attractions for all ages. Finally for the golfers, Whitby has a fine old course on the headland, so beware on windy days and don't bother bringing your brolly! For more information please see our places to go page or visit the golf club website www.whitbygolfclub.co.uk.
